The simple answer is “Hell yeah!”
Staircases are such a dominant style feature. If you see a property with an amazing stair, you immediately sub-consciously assign that property a value and status which elevates it way beyond if it didn’t have that feature.
Yes there’s the practicality of having a stair that fits the space available, that a made to measure staircase offers, but so much more can be achieved.
It can of course just be an in-keeping style to go with the age of the property. It could be a custom design just to fit the often weird space available. In itself made to measure will be loads better than trying to craft an off the shelf stair kit into your space.
However the style of the stair can speak volumes. It can be a feature as well as just a practicality. You have many choices, say a traditional Georgian style staircase, widening the steps at the bottom, maybe curved ended, the banister rail, terminating in a grand volute or monkey tail.
It could be made in a type of timber, or a width that says opulence, or at least, this wasn’t an after-thought, a practicality, just crammed in where it would fit. The feel could be heavy, solid, Oak maybe, or light, modern, open planned, steel spine.
The handrail could be continuous with a carved or traditional shape, a simple curve, or a thick, ball ended rope!
The flights may wind around, be straight, cantilevered or split off each side to a gallery or grand landing. They could be open planned treads or all closed-in steps, with traditional risers, or indeed a fully closed-in staircase.
The treads and risers can be made of contrasting timbers, or even painted to stand out. Combinations of timber, steel and glass give numerous options.
You could even add designer lighting with steps or strings individually lit with LEDs.
Enclosures or side walls may be panelled, or decorative.
The banister and balustrade could offer a style feature in itself. Glass, iron, stainless steel, natural or painted timber , turned balusters or square. Solid or railed.
Often stairs are one of the first things you see when you enter a commanding hallway or living space. Bespoke, made to measure staircases offer so many choices which in turn gives you the option to make quite a statement. One which sets the feel of the whole house.
